What are Digital Open Badges?A digital badge or microcredential is an online credential that allows you to be recognized for discrete skills you gain. An open badge refers to a badge that can be freely used and shared across different badging platforms. Watch this video to learn more. Digital open badges contain data that allows a user to get more information about what the earner actually knows and can do. They are awarded by badge issuers, who often use an issuing platform (e.g., Badgr, Credly) to manage them.

Why Should I Earn Badges as a Teacher?The digital open badges movement is beginning to infiltrate the education world. Some school districts are starting to create and adopt open badges as a means of awarding professional development points and/or salary benefits to their teachers. By earning badges, you may also lean about one form of assessment you could potentially use with your students.

What is Badgeschool?Badgeschool is the open badge issuer associated with Brigham Young University - Provo. It currently issues over 50 badges focused on helping educators and education majors to develop skills in educational technology. Badgeschool uses Badgr as its open badge issuing platform. How do I earn Badgeschool's Badges?If you are not currently enrolled in one of BYU's Technology for Teachers courses, you will need to contact the Badgeschool administrator directly in order to earn badges. Currently, you should contact Rick West rickwest@byu.edu
